As part of our ongoing collaboration with Wales and West Housing, JG Hale are delighted to have commenced works on site at Free Street, Brecon. Located on the grounds of the Former Roy Hatton Car Sales, the Free Street Extra Care project will provide 68 affordable flats for the over 55’s, perfect for self-contained living. To promote placemaking, the development will benefit from communal facilities, a winter garden space, restaurant, craft space, and health and beauty suite. Situated in the heart of Brecon town centre, the homes are conveniently located near to a range of amenities and facilities, promoting active travel.
All flats are designed to the new WDQR standards and adopt HAPPI principles; ensuring that each person’s home is fit to meet any evolving needs, and has the ability to be adapted over time, ensuring a home for life. The character of the development aims to be sympathetic to the Brecon Beacons’ conservation area, whilst complimenting the appearance of the existing vernacular with high quality stock bricks and zinc.
Following the successful delivery of 82 affordable homes at Chiltern Close, Llanishen, and 101 at Clive Lane, Grangetown; Free Street will be Hale’s fourth project with the association (subsequent to the commencement Myrtle Close, which is also currently on site). The works at Free Street forms part of a ten-year partnership agreement with Wales and West Housing, as one of two preferred contractor for projects in South Wales.
