As part of Hale’s Longmeadow project for Hedyn, a series of Arts and Culture initiatives have taken place across the Lliswerry community, focused on transforming overlooked spaces into a vibrant representation of the people who live there.

Hale’s Social Value Manager, Dionne Herbert. has been working with Tanio Arts Cymru, and Newport-based artist Andy O’Rourke to create two community-led mosaics and a vivid mural.

The initiatives included in-depth community consultations, ensuring that each piece of art truly was shaped by local voices; capturing the history, stories, and memories of community members. Enhanced by funding from Arts & Business Cymru Culture Step Initiative, the initiative forms part of Hedyn‘s wider regeneration of Lliswerry and Newport as a region.

The hard work and collaborative efforts of all partners and the community, was recently celebrated during a special ceremonial unveiling of the final piece of artwork; bringing colour and creativity to the Lliswerry community.  Key highlights from the special event included:

🎶 🎨 Being serenaded by Alicia, Ruth and Lori from Tanio and Choirs for Good, adding a wonderful atmosphere to the event.

✂️Paul from across the road officially cutting the ribbon to unveil the artwork; a lovely nod to local ownership and pride.
